ASRY shines spotlight on safety culture with HSE Week

The Arab Shipbuilding and Repair Yard Company (ASRY) has held its 2025 Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Week under the theme ‘Elevating HSE Culture with Safe Summer.’

The Arab Shipbuilding and Repair Yard Company (ASRY) has conducted its 2025 Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Week, bringing together employees, subcontractors, government representatives and industry leaders to reinforce best practice and raise awareness of key occupational safety risks.

The three-day programme, held from 11–13 August at ASRY’s facilities in Bahrain, opened with a formal ceremony attended by senior company officials as well as representatives from the Ministry of Labour, the Ministry of Interior, Bahrain Civil Defence and leading industrial firms SULB and Foulath Holding.

The strong presence of national bodies underlined the event’s importance in promoting a shared safety culture across the maritime and industrial sectors.

Following the opening, the agenda moved into a series of targeted awareness campaigns.

The first, titled ‘Safe Summer,’ focused on preventing heat stress and promoting safe working practices during Bahrain’s high-temperature months.

Specialist talks and practical demonstrations offered staff practical strategies for recognising early signs of heat exhaustion and taking preventive measures.

The second campaign, ‘Fire, Workplace Safety and Security,’ combined educational talks with interactive workshops led by safety experts from major Bahraini industrial companies.

The sessions emphasised risk prevention and emergency response, while participants also joined guided tours of ASRY’s workshops and repair facilities to observe safety protocols in practice.

The inclusion of live demonstrations and practical activities was designed to reinforce learning and encourage stronger workforce engagement.

The final campaign addressed waste management and environmental responsibility.

The Supreme Council for Environment delivered a keynote presentation highlighting sustainable practices and the need for organisations to reduce their environmental footprint.

ASRY’s Quality and HSSE teams contributed by running advanced training sessions aligned with national and international standards, with guidance covering both compliance and practical steps to improve workplace sustainability.

Commenting on the week’s activities, ASRY’s HSSE Manager, Mahmood Abdulaziz, stressed the value of holding dedicated HSE programmes.

He said the events raise awareness across the workforce about taking preventive measures in everyday work and keep safety a top priority for all.

Abdulaziz added that ongoing open communication between management and employees helps ensure the objectives are achieved and sustained.

By combining practical training, regulatory engagement and open dialogue between management and employees, ASRY sought to strengthen its safety culture and extend good practice beyond its own operations.
