The Federal Polytechnic Nekede Owerri Centre for Training and Certification on Health, Safety, and Environment came into existence in the year 2021 under the then Rector, Engr. Dr. Arimanwa FOSHA. He donated a two-hall complex to house the HSE centre’s training programme in collaboration with OSHA United Kingdom. The centre is located within the campus and is well furnished with safety training and demonstration tools. Dr. A.C. Madu, JP, FOSHA has remained the pioneer and the current and current director overseeing all training and certification processes in collaboration with OSHA United Kingdom under the Nigerian Region. The centre, as of today, has graduated up to 120 candidates drawn from the Institution and surrounding organisations. However, in view of the ongoing revalidation and re-accreditation exercise, it has become quite imperative that we join other OSHA UK Training Centres all over the world to get enlisted. Importantly, two, since her assumption of office in 2024, the Rector, the person of Dr. Mrs. Basilia Nkemdilim Igbokwe, also a fellow of the Institute, has shown a very deep interest in ensuring the well-being and operations of the centre, by promptly providing it with the needed infrastructures.
